Commentary: Another 'Miracle' for New York?

The following is an exerpt from an op-ed in the Albany Times Union penned by Senator Patricia Fahy and Assemblymember John McDonald:

"In 1932 and 1980, amid the brutal cold of an upstate winter, the eyes of the world fell upon Lake Placid and New York state. International athletes raced down our slopes and visitors filled small Adirondack towns. In 1980, a young USA hockey team, with ice in their veins and a nation behind them as the Cold War gripped the globe, shocked the world in the “Miracle on Ice.”

Now, in 2042, picture that same excitement and energy if the Olympic Winter Games come not just to Lake Placid, but to New York City and all in between. And who is better positioned to capitalize on those games than our Capital Region?

Imagine scores of international athletes, tourists and visitors making the Capital Region their home base for those 17 days, with both locations just a two-and-a-half-hour train ride or drive in either direction."
